Training Visa (Subclass 407)

Occupational training pathways to enhance skills through Australian-based workplace training and experience.

The Training Visa (Subclass 407) is a temporary work visa that allows you to participate in workplace-based occupational training activities within Australia. This pathway is specifically designed to enhance your job skills, complement your tertiary area of study, advance your field of expertise, or provide structured professional development training. Expert Education and Visa Services ensures your training plan, corporate sponsorship, and visa lodgement align perfectly with current immigration requirements.

What the Training Visa Offers

Up to 2 Years Stay

Live and train in Australia for up to 2 years, entirely dependent on the structure and requirements of your designated training plan.

Flexible Work Rights

Gain critical on-the-job Australian exposure while being permitted to work up to 40 hours per fortnight to support yourself.

Unrestricted Travel

Travel to and from Australia as frequently as you like while your visa remains active.

Family Inclusion

Bring immediate family members (partners and dependent children) with you under the subsequent entrant framework.

The 3 Types of Approved Occupational Training

Your sponsor's training program must fall under one of three recognised nomination pathways:

Type 1: Occupational training required for registration

Mandatory workplace-based training or practical experience is required to secure occupational registration, licensing, or membership to practice your profession in Australia or your home country.

Type 2: Occupational training to enhance skills in an eligible occupation

A highly structured, customised training program designed specifically to improve your existing skills in an active profession listed on the Skilled Occupation List.

Type 3: Occupational training for capacity building overseas

Structured training designed to build capabilities outside Australia. This includes international students completing overseas qualifications, foreign government-supported trainees, or professional development for executive staff.

2026 Core Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the Subclass 407 visa, you must satisfy the following parameters:

Age Standard

You must be 18 years of age or older at the time the visa application is assessed and decided.

Background & Experience

You must prove you have at least 12 months of active, relevant experience (either through full-time employment or tertiary study) within the past 24 months.

Language Threshold

You must demonstrate a "Functional English" standard (equivalent to an IELTS overall score of 4.5 or a PTE Academic overall score of 24).

Financials & Health

You must maintain adequate private health insurance coverage for your entire stay and clear all character checks and medical assessments.

### Critical 2026 Rule: The Three-Step Process
The Department of Home Affairs enforces a strict application sequence. You cannot lodge your visa application alongside your sponsorship or nomination forms.
1. Step 1: Your employer must apply for and be approved as a Temporary Activities Sponsor (TAS). 2. Step 2: Your sponsor must lodge a formal Nomination and Structured Training Plan detailing your learning outcomes. 3. Step 3: Your visa application can only be validly lodged after both the sponsorship and nomination have been officially approved.

Step-by-Step Processing Framework

Because of the sequential requirements, processing timelines reflect individual document preparation:

Processing Windows

Once the final visa stage is lodged, approximately 50% of applications are finalised within 4 to 6 months, while highly complex training plans under intense department scrutiny can extend up to 13 to 14 months.

Government Cost Baseline

The current Department baseline visa fee is AUD 430 for the primary applicant. Separate, minimal regulatory fees apply to the business sponsorship (AUD 420) and nomination stages (AUD 170).

Disclaimer: Visa fees, processing times, and regulatory requirements are subject to change due to government indexation and policy updates. Because final details can vary, please verify current figures on the official Australian Department of Home Affairs website or consult our migration agents before applying.
